Doug plants with a 24 row Kinze and also a 12 row Kinze planter in Northwest Iowa.  He has both planters equipped with RINEX’s section controllers and Tru Count clutches for shutoff.  He also sprays with a John Deere 4920 self-propelled sprayer using the RINEX Automatic Shutoff to control his boom sections individually.

“I feel with the planters that I can’t afford not to have the RINEX section controller when it comes to the savings on seed and my yield increase in double planted areas.”

“I also am saving money with the boom shutoff technology with chemical savings, and also when I use my Greenseeker to apply liquid fertilizer.”

“I also like the feature of having an audible alarm that is not annoying but yet is easy to listen to for turning the sections or rows on and off.  I also found out that this feature comes in handy when trying to set the timing delay on the RINEX with the monitor.  We were finding that our monitor was sometimes several seconds late in reacting to when the planter is dropping seed, and when it stops planting.  It nice to be able to look back and hear the sections clicking on the RINEX and see that it is close to the spot where it needs to be working.”
“I felt that it was very easy to run after setting the latency on and off settings.  Also the whisker switch was handy to have with it talking to the RINEX and telling it that when the planter is up that it is not recording no matter where you are in the field.  This way if you pick up and drive in an unplanted area you don’t have to think about tuning it off, it is just one less thing that you have to remember.”

“I figure that with the savings that I saved with everything put together I easily paid for both of my systems in the first year of use.  Not to mention all of the chemical and fertilizer that was not double sprayed.  I feel on a conservative figure you are looking at a 10% savings on your seed costs and up to a 50-75 bu./ac. increase in yield where you would be double planting in point row situations."
